The circular switch, 2006

The circular switch was designed by Konstantin Grcic and manufactured by Merten. It won the iF product design 2008 and the Design plus 2008 awards. There is the quote about functions indication of this switch and its family from the brochure of Merten product -  A “round” break out of the “rectangular” system allows shape to indicate functions: Switching = round, socket – outlets and other functions = rectangular. Allocating the round shape to the switching function creates a formal unit that we intuitively find suitable.

Astra A caught my attention with its attractive colour glass spheres. This 50 cm/ 20 inches high wall lamp was designed by Denis Santachiara and produced by La Murrina. Materials: transparent, colored and frosted glass and stainless steel.

Second Shadow Lamp

Second Shadow Lamp was designed by Studio Tord Boontje and manufactured by Artecnica. It was made of acetate, nylon and chrome plated steel and has two colour variations – white and green. It is 76.2 cm/ 30 inches high.  I found out that the creators of this lamp promised that it magically transformes any room into a fantasy shadow gardens of delights.

Chrysalis sky

The floor lamp Chrysalis sky was created by Angus Hutcheson. It was made of silk cocoons in natural finishes and brushed stainless steel. I got it straight at www.limn.com what the diffuser of the lamp was modeled by random configuration of silk cocoons each of which was attached to a soldered wire matrix and the overall form of the piece was created by the slowly building of the layers of cocoons.

Agatha, 2009

It was made of polypropylene. The handle of  the lamp was available in three colour variations: orange, black and blue. It won the 2001 Golden Compass award. The lamp was added to the permanent collection at the MoMA in New York.
